Main Duties

  • Construction of Deep Tube Wells
  • Cleaning and Flushing of Tube Wells
  • Installation of Hand Pumps
  • Installation of Electrical Submersible Pumps
  • Rehabilitation and Maintenance of Tube Wells
  • Construction of Boreholes for Hydrogeological Research / Studies
  • Maintenance and Repairing of Drilling Machines / Air Compressors

The main duties of drilling division is to construct deep or various types of tube wells to fulfill water demands of Sri Lankan society. All drilling works are conducted by drilling division in accordance with the job orders provided by the Hydrogeology and Operation divisions. Drilling division has enough technical knowledge as well as equipments/machinaries to adopt two drilling methods such as Air drilling and Mud drilling. Consequently, deep tube wells are able to construct at any problematic geological terrain in Sri Lanka.

 

 

 


 

 

Repairing of hand pumps installed in tube wells as well as repairing of drilling machines with air-compressors are conducted at the well site when required. When such repairs are unable to conduct at the site, these repairing jobs are transferred to the mechanical workshop at Rathmalana.

At present, Drilling division has the highest number of employees who are managed by Assistant General Manager (Drilling). This division has 16 numbers of drilling officers who have comprehensive knowledge of drilling techniques. In addition, there are 8 numbers of officers who completed their training recently.
